Main Location:
Widely distributed in the semi-arid and arid zones of the Sahel north of the 120° N parallel from central Chad in the east to the Atlantic coast in the west and well into the southern Sahara; in recent years these goats have penetrated farther south, consequent on drought. However, not being trypanotolerant, they do not survive for long in forest and dense savannah. The production systems are agro-pastoral, pastoral or peri-urban (Wilson, 1991).
