Ibeidi
Synonyms:
Abidi; Ebeidi, Ibidi.
Special Characteristics:
It is large animal with estimated live weight of about 60 kg. The colour is white, usually with a brown head, but it sometimes has a black fleece. Rams are horned; ewes are usually polled but some have small horns. The tail is triangular and relatively thin, reachinh to the hocka or below (Mason, 1967).
Main Location:
This breed is found only in the area around Beni-Ibedi near El Minya in Upper Egypt.
Origin:
This breed is named after the village of Beni Abid (Ibeid) in Minieh Province, and this may indicate origin of the present-day populations; the breed resembles the Ossimi, suggesting possible contribution of this breed in its derivation mason, 1967).
